When Massachusetts artist, Jane Herzenberg earned her BFA degree she planned
to pursue painting and print making, but after putting brush to fabric, her life and
perceptions were transformed. Jane experimented with everything she could think of... life
sized soft sculptures, pillows, shower curtains and later neckties and women's garments.
Her fine art background gave her the tools and skills to make the leap into this new medium
called fiber.
Jane Herzenberg: "As I taught myself the technical side of surface design using textile dyes
and silk fabrics, my focus turned to women's clothing and explorations in drape and color.
A constant source and inspiration is the Japanese tradition of simplicity in design. My
clean, fluid clothing designs are enhanced by layering colors and fabric etching. Each of my
garments is illuminated with rich saturated colors that can only be achieved by hand with a
brush.
