Artist's Statement: While growing up on the West Coast, Kathryn Steffen became passionate about the
outdoors and art and was encouraged to pursue both from an early age. She studied drawing, painting and
ceramics before beginning formal art studies at San Diego State University with a focus on Graphic Design.
A move to the Pacific Northwest two decades ago with its lush landscape helped her realize that her true
focus was painting. "Being an artist is a life I love. I get to spend so much time outdoors sketching,
photographing, painting studies and just being in nature, gathering the raw material for my studio work."
Kathryn tries to convey the beauty and essence in her still life and landscape paintings that inspired her
to paint them in the first place. Richness of color, simplicity in design and the serenity of a landscape
are elements of her style.
