- Sally Craig has always related jewelry-making to completing a puzzle. She enjoys the process of taking the vision in her head, figuring out the necessary materials, taking them in hand, and producing the final product. Sally's primary technique involves weaving or wrapping the weft of 30g 22k gold or fine silver wire around the warp of 20g sterling silver wire in such a way as to produce different patterns. The pattern or texture the weaving creates is greatly magnified by oxidizing the pieces, which creates the dramatic black and gold results. The other technique is roller pressing various patterns into the gold or silver sheet that is then fabricated or cast into finished pieces. Sally is a graduate of Skidmore College and the University of Washington. It was in Seattle that she studied with Mary Lee Hu, who introduced her to the wire working techniques that have so greatly influenced her work. Cleaning: The oxidized pieces should not need to be cleaned. The combined silver and gold pieces can be cleaned with Tarn-ex, a soft toothbrush and rinsed immediately. The all-gold pieces should be cleaned periodically with a soft toothbrush and mild detergent.
